The Burning Hell with the Useless Cans
October 17 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
This is going to be an absolute gem of a show. Smart and sassy as heck, The Burning Hell is a folk-punk trio from Prince Edward Island, Canada. Named after a religious tract handed to frontman Mathias Kom by a wide-eyed zealot in Toronto, the band plays songs about seagulls, the government, shopping malls, and the similarities between love and hurricanes. They are idiosyncratic and un-classifiable, united by Kom’s singular outlook on the world: wise and naive, cynical and life-affirming, full of brilliant, unexpected narratives and a deeply felt generosity of spirit.
The Useless Cans is a fast-rising Capital Region trio with a totally unique gypsy-swing-punk style inspired equally by swing greats such as Django Reinhardt and Cab Calloway and raucous rockers such as The Doors and Jimi Hendrix. They are Julia Posin on washboard, kazoo, and multi-lingual vocals, Dylan Perrillo on stand-up bass and vocals, and Bobby Davis on resonator guitar and vocals. Their repertoire mixes old-timey swing favorites, traditional Russian celebration tunes, and driving original songs to inspire the masses to reject the social injustices that plague the world today.
