Would you like to develop a habit of expressing yourself creatively, that helps you you slow down and really look and notice things, and that, if done regularly, will improve and develop your sketching and drawing skills? The best tool for this is keeping a sketchbook or visual journal on a regular basis. Anyone can develop this healthy, creative, relaxing habit. In this 5 session workshop you will attend to your sketchbook or journal. As you move between the pages you will be guided and encouraged without harsh self judgment. As you commit to the practice — allowing yourself to explore, experiment, play, as well as make mistakes and learn from from them — you will develop and improve your creative and artistic skills and abilities beyond whatever level and ability you are at right now, Here’s where you can freely express yourself; improve sketching, drawing and other artistic techniques; plan and develop creative ideas; capture moments of your day, travels and life experiences; explore subjects and themes that interest you; and have fun while building confidence. Every sketchbook or visual journal is as unique and individual as its keeper. Classes may include: mark making techniques; prompts, assignments and exercises to inspire and loosen you up; drawing from observation; sketching from nature; portraits and figure drawing; urban sketching; drawing from imagination; collage and mixed media. Newbies and beginners are welcome. Please bring general supplies that you’d like to use and a sketchbook for the first class. Carol will expand on materials during the first class.
Please note that our classes are typically held in the lower level of Arlene’s. Because access to the lower level is available only by stair, please let us know if using the stairs presents any difficulty for you in advance of the class so we can make alternate arrangements. We want to make sure everyone is able to enjoy and participate in our classes.
