Have you ever wanted to try your hand at sculpting with clay? Students in this workshop will develop a basic understanding of the different methods of working with clay. They will be able to jump right into the sculpting experience. Whether interested in building a coil pot, sculpting from life using tools, or creating an abstract sculpture, we’ll work with everyone to accomplish their individual goals. Students should come to the workshop with a feasible idea of what to make within the allotted time. They should also bring any specific materials or tools that they would like to use to create their piece. For example, if interested in textures, bring leaves, flowers, or anything else (get creative!) to press into the surface of the clay to leave an impression. Please note that due to the introductory nature of this workshop sculptures are limited to roughly the size of a hand. Supplies are included in the cost of this workshop.
Please note that our classes are typically held in the lower level of Arlene’s. Because access to the lower level is available only by stair, please let us know if using the stairs presents any difficulty for you in advance of the class so we can make alternate arrangements. We want to make sure everyone is able to enjoy and participate in our classes.
