Albany First Friday Swing Dance w/ Doc Scanlon

Free dance lesson followed by open dancing to the band’s mix of swing music.
* Free lesson 7-8pm. No partner needed.
* Dance 8-11pm to Doc Scanlon.
Admission including lesson: $15; $12 DFO; $10 students, seniors.
Doc Scanlon returns to the Capital District to play the area’s longest-running Swing Dance. Expect high energy Swing, rollicking R&B and sizzling 50’s & 60’s Roots Rock. Formed over 30 years ago in the Albany area, Doc Scanlon’s Rhythm Boys plays a repertoire songs of Hot Swing, Jump Blues, New Orleans and Roots Rock, with artists like Louis Prima, Louis Jordan, Louis Armstrong, and Chuck Berry, as well as many Big Band Era classics. This is a fun, tight, experienced dance band. Recently, Doc has been leading bands to such international capitals as Barcelona, Paris, Munich, Lisbon and Madrid, but is thrilled to come back to his hometown and see all his friends. Welcome him back!
Featured musicians include Doc Scanlon (bass), Don Young (guitar), Brian Patneaude (sax), Sean Lowery aka Riff Baxter (trumpet), Colleen Pratt (vocals) and Gene Garone (drums).
Beginners: Take the lesson at 7pm and you’ll be dancing with nice people within the hour! The lesson (and a demo later with the band) will feature amazing dancers Emily Vanston, and, up from New Orleans, the return of Chance Bushman!
