25 Years! Sarah Craig & Joe Deuel Dinner & Stories
February 12 @ 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm
Twenty-five years ago, Saratoga Springs Public Library was just breaking ground, there was a dusty parking lot next to Caffe Lena, and an empty lot and fruit market across the street. Lena Spencer had been gone for six years, and the now non-profit venue was ready to hire it’s first Executive Director. The Board of Directors of perhaps the most famous folk music venue in the world took a chance hiring the 27-year-old Sarah Craig who had all of four years of work experience and a modest familiarity with folk music. After two and a half decades of trial and error, imagining possibilities, putting one foot in front of the other, and believing that it’s possible to save the world with music, Sarah has reached her Silver Anniversary and Caffe Lena is thriving.
Joe Deuel, the magician behind the soundboard, has been with Caffe Lena for the better part of nearly four decades. “His stories and memories and insane level of dedication to the venue have kept me on track all these years. More than anyone else, Joe is the guy I answer to,” says Sarah. Sarah and Joe invite you for dinner prepared by Mama Mia’s, followed by a sharing of memories. All funds raised will go toward Caffe Lena’s children’s programs, so that Lena’s legacy can find its future torchbearers.
