Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band headlining The Egg on Nov. 17
ALBANY — The Egg will host The Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band on Nov. 17, at 8 p.m.
Twenty-five years into his recording career, Shepherd continues to create genre-defining blues-infused rock n’ roll. Shepherd has built an enviable resume as an accomplished recording artist, a riveting live performer and one of the most talented and distinctive guitarists of his generation. Shepherd has sold millions of albums worldwide, received five Grammy nominations, two Billboard Music Awards, as well as a pair of Orville H. Gibson awards, the Blues Foundation’s Keeping The Blues Alive award and two Blues Music awards. He’s had seven No. 1 blues albums and a string of No. 1 mainstream rock singles.
While Shepherd has had six No. 1 rock tracks and a slew of top 10 songs, no show would be complete without the mega-hit “Blue on Black.” Taken from the band’s second album, it spent an incredible 42 weeks on the U.S. Billboard Rock Charts on its release, winning Rock Track of the Year. “Blue on Black” now has over 25 million streams and became a 2019 smash when Shepherd collaborated with some friends.
“That’s the song that we cannot, not walk out onto the stage and play,” Shepherd said. “I’ve been playing that song for more than 20 years, and I still enjoy playing it. As a songwriter, it’s the song that you hope you can write. It’s a timeless song that doesn’t really seem to age. A year ago a new version of it came out with the Five Finger Death Punch guys, Brian May, myself and Brantley Gilbert. In the states it went to #1 on the rock charts again. As a songwriter to have a #1 hit twice with the same song is really rare, and certainly something to be proud of.”
The Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band will release its first live concert video this winter. “Straight To You: Live” will release on Nov. 27, via Provogue. It will be released on DVD and CD, Blu-Ray and CD, 2LP red transparent vinyl and digitally. You can pre-order it here.
