La Capital Tacos to Open in Downtown Troy on Monday, February 22nd
The Downtown Troy Improvement District welcomes La Capital Tacos, 161 4th Street, with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 2pm on Monday, February 22nd 2021.
For Yair de la Rosa, owner of La Capital Tacos, food and hospitality has always been a part of his life. He began his culinary career working at his family’s business, La Tortuga, a taqueria open since 1968 in Mexico. Having been born in Mexico city and not knowing English, Yair took a risk and relocated to New York City in 2002 where he worked at the Hotel Pennsylvania and studied ESL. Not one to stop learning and growing, Yair then moved to Naples, Florida with his family. There, he worked with his brother who was an executive chef of a fine dining restaurant as a line cook. As he continued to study the culinary arts Yair moved up quickly to Sous Chef, Chef, and then Executive Chef at fine dining restaurants across Florida. While there, he was even able to train with various James Beard award-winning chefs that helped to hone his incredible skills in the kitchen even further. Yair’s attention to detail, quality and positivity translates beautifully into his food as is evident at La Capital Tacos.
Relocating to the Capital Region, Yair began vending at the Troy Waterfront Farmer’s Market two years ago. Visitors may recognize his “Tacos are Better than Therapy” Staff shirts. Eating his tacos are an experience! Yair travels to New York City to purchase fresh, key ingredients for his marinades and salsas, and is in the process of purchasing a tortilla machine. Yair is excited and adamite in bringing the authentic Mexican taqueria experience to Downtown Troy, NY. Using recipes from his family’s business and knowledge from his culinary experiences to provide the quick, high quality Mexican cuisine with flavors of the taquerias from his childhood. Yair is committed to catering to all types and is excited to share his cuisine with you; whether you’re grabbing lunch on a break from work or class, headed home at the end of a night out, or in need of a delicious and easy dish to enjoy at celebrations or gatherings.
An entire commercial kitchen, with hoods and gas grills was installed in the old brick-and-mortar Capital Taxi Stand building on 161 4th Street and gave a historical piece of Troy new life. Spray-paint artwork covers the walls and ceilings and customers have direct views of their orders being prepared through large open windows. Currently La Capital Tacos offers pick-up, delivery and catering orders.
“When you love what you do and put your heart into cooking, the outcome will always be good,” said Yair de la Rosa, owner of La Capital Tacos, “Troy has provided so much already in such a short time. I came to the US not knowing any English in 2002, and with each opportunity and the support of my family, co-workers, our customers and the passion for our food, I am truly excited and grateful.”
Hours are Tuesday through Saturday 11:00am-8:00pm, and Sunday 12:00pm-7:00pm.
