1957: Elvis Presley made his last appearance on the “Ed Sullivan Show” in New York City.
1958: Gibson patents its Flying V electric guitar. Guitarists who played a Flying V include Albert Collins, Jimi Hendrix, Marc Bolan, and Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top.
1964: The Rolling Stones begin their first headlining UK tour. Their opening act is The Ronettes.
1966: Duke Ellington’s concert recorded at 5th Avenue Presbyterian Church in New York City, was broadcast on CBS-TV.
1975: About a thousand Led Zeppelin fans riot while waiting for tickets to go on sale at Boston Garden. About $30,000 was done in damage and the show was canceled by Boston Mayor Kevin White.
1976: Peter Frampton’s live double album Frampton Comes Alive! is released. It has sold over 8 million copies.
1977: EMI Records gives no reason when they drop The Sex Pistols from their roster. The band receives $68,000 to be released from their contract only 3 months after signing it.
1993: Rolling Stones bassist Bill Wyman announces his upcoming departure from the group after thirty years in the band.
2009: The iTunes Music Store reaches 6 billion songs sold.
