Arts Center picks Fern Apfel piece for “best in show” among several FENCE select winners
The Arts Center of the Capital Region has announced and congratulated this year’s FENCE Select artists and winners. The top artist was Fern Apfel and her work titled “The Yellow Envelope” (shown below) while Victoria van der Laan won runner-up with her piece “To Dash Against Darkness.”
Both artists received a cash stipend in the gallery’s September award ceremony, while Apfel will have her work displayed on solo exhibition.

The exhibitions and winners were picked by FENCE Select Juror Ian Berry, Dayton Director of The Frances Young Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs.
FENCE Select will remain on display through December 16th. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the Arts Center can only permit 10 guests at a time within each of their two galleries.
