I met Stevie Ray Vaughan. Well, maybe it was more of an “encounter” than an actual “meeting”. I was working concert security at the RPI Houston Fieldhouse. As a poor college student I used to take advantage of leftover catering in the dressing rooms once the acts were gone. SRV had performed with Jeff Beck and by this point the arena was pretty much empty. I made my way to the dressing room and started to eat and drink what was there. SRV walked in and surprised me with my mouth full of food. I apologized and told him that I thought they had already left. He replied that he wanted to grab some fruit for the tour bus. I probably made some stupid comment like “great show” or “where do you play next”. But I did ask him if he had an extra guitar pic I could have. As I carried his bag of fruit to the tour bus for him, he reached into his pocket and handed me the used pic that I have framed in my office.
