Top Tips for Live Music (for the week beginning October 26th)

It’s both heartening and sad that almost every week, there is a “Save Our Stages” type of fundraiser for one of our local venues.  This week is no exception.  As I write this, there is a For Sale sign up on the venerable Lark Tavern.  There is (tonight, October 25) a fundraiser being put on by Soul Sky to benefit the Hangar on the Hudson, which (like many others) has been shuttered since last winter.  And this week’s Best Bet is a telethon in support of Chrome, up in Waterford.  Support them in whatever way you can.

Saturday night is also Halloween.  There will certainly be some live music happening, if a bit more difficult to pin down due to restrictions on advertising.  If you are celebrating at home, I can’t recommend enough the Super Dark Home Video Halloween Special.  The perfect thing to get you in a creepy mood, while enjoying some great bands.

Best bet:  There’s No Place like Chrome.  Chrome quietly has quietly hosted some pretty terrific shows over the years…from Moriah Formica to Agnostic Front. And they do it off the beaten path, holding fort up in Waterford.  Covid has put this business very much at risk.  Owner Darla Cherry reluctantly announced it for sale last month, but received such outpouring from the community she decided to host a telethon in a last-ditch effort to save the venue.  It will air from noon to 8PM this Sunday on their Facebook page.  Specific acts have not been announced yet, but it’s sure to be a winner.
