LIVE: Chuck Lamb @ Caffe Lena, 9/8/2020
Chuck Lamb is a world class pianist and keyboard maven having founded the jazz-rock fusion band Dry Jack which had recorded a few albums that got national notoriety. But, it wasn’t until the pianist reached the pinnacle of virtuosity, internationally, to be an intrinsic part of the Brubeck Brothers band for way over a decade.
Having come to Saratoga Springs, as a professor of music for Skidmore College, that was what brought him to Caffe Lena‘s stage. There, three years ago, he started a residence one day a month in that hallowed music club/ coffee house.
Lamb has brought in some of the greatest talent on the modern jazz scene including Ben Monder and Chico Freeman, among too many others to name just a few for his trio’s performances with a special guest appearing.
This time out his trio of Peter Mac on double bass with Harvey Sorgen on drums, he brought in amazing saxophonist Jeff Lederer to round off the piano trio with that time a special guest on the horn.
Many, if not all, compositions were composed by Lamb during the Covid-19 lockdown and beyond. If your bag is Jazz, this is as good as it gets in the North-Country! To check out the concert:
