Stories from a Bar #35, Jack McGarry of The Dead Rabbit Grocery & Grog
In the latest episode of Stories From A Bar I am joined (via Zoom) by Jack McGarry. Originally from Belfast, Jack relocated to Manhattan with his business partner to open The Dead Rabbit Grocery & Grog in 2013. Their version of a truly authentic Irish Pub that has won World’s Best Bar twice in the 7 years they have been open.
At age 23 Jack became the youngest to ever win International Bartender of the Year which became the catalyst for him to leave Belfast and open The Dead Rabbit in Manhattan. From there we go on to discuss all things Dead Rabbit, including the tough early days, hurricanes, fires, and the impact of the Coronavirus on the City’s bar scene. Also of surprising not are the local ties to Troy, NY that are mentioned when it comes to the leader of the Irish gang the establishment is named after.
