To commemorate Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton during the month of her birth, Discover Albany will host a driving scavenger hunt-tour consisting of five historic locations across Albany County tied to her and her husband, founding father Alexander Hamilton.

Follow Albany’s trails of Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton to win Hamilton goodies from the Albany Institute of History and Art

A marker will be hidden at each site on the tour, each containing some information on Eliza’s connection to the historic site. Players will have to find a ‘Discover Eliza’s Albany’ marker at each site and take a photo with each location’s background. (All markers will be placed on the grounds of the historic sites). Photos must be emailed to info@albany.org by 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21 to be entered to win a gift basket with Hamilton and Schuyler-themed goodies from the Albany Institute of History & Art. Players are encouraged to post their photos, tagging both Discover Albany, the location of the photo, and including the hashtags #HamiltonInAlbany and #ElizaSchuylersAlbany, on social media.

The five stops of the tour are:

  • Schuyler Mansion State Historic Site
  • Ten Broeck Mansion
  • Quackenbush Square
  • Crailo State Historic Site
  • First Church in Albany

This tour will show you what Albany looked like through the perspective of an 18 century woman’s eyes. Get a glimpse of Eliza Schuyler Hamilton as a daughter, mother, a person of faith and a prominent figure during the tumultuous time of the Revolution.

Born on Aug. 9, 1757 in Albany, Eliza Schuyler was the second daughter of two wealthy and political New Yorkers, Gen. Philip Schuyler and Catherine Van Rensselaer Schuyler.

Best known as the wife of founding father Alexander Hamilton, together they had eight children. Schuyler was a defender of Hamilton’s works and co-founder and deputy director of Graham Windham, the first private orphanage in New York City. Today, she is a main character in the Lin-Manuel Miranda musical Hamilton now featured on Disney+.

Entries to the contest will be accepted throughout the two-week period and a random winner will be selected on Monday, August 24. The winner will be contacted through the email that they used to submit the photos.
