LIVE: Erin Harpe (& Jim Countryman) Country Blues Duo @ Caffe Lena, 7/19/2020
Erin Harpe is a wonderful interpreter of ‘Country Blues’ idiom influenced by the iconic Memphis Minnie and others, including Mississippi John Hurt, Cephas & Wiggins and Geeshie Wiley. Based in Boston, Harpe and her husband, Jim Countryman, who is in his own right a marvelous bass accompanist on what looks like an oversized ukulele, present a duo performance with tight vocal harmonies, engaging rhythms and Harpe’s electric-guitar leads.
That warm Sunday, Harpe and Countryman, as the Country Blues Duo, launched the YouTube web Live Stream from Caffe Lena with flawless music “manship” and lots of smiles as the duo mined and presented the legacy of 1930s, ’40s, and ’50s acoustic blues pantheon to the audience in the web-o-sphere!
