Tanglewood to Host Virtual Gala to Honor Violinist Isaac Stern
On July 23, Tanglewood will host its first ever Virtual Gala. The gala will celebrate the centennial birthday of American violinist Isaac Stern.
The Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO) decided to take its annual Tanglewood Gala online this year “as a way to raise funds during this period of lost ticket revenue due to the hiatus from live performances in response to continuing concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic.”
“It is an honor for all of us at Tanglewood to celebrate the 100th birthday of Isaac Stern–one of the most influential cultural icons of the 20th century,” Mark Volpe, BSO President and CEO said in a statement. “Renowned as one of the foremost violinists and violin teachers of his time, Isaac Stern also left an indelible mark on the world’s musical and cultural landscape through his work as a cultural ambassador, social advocate, and civic leader. We hope our celebration of the life and legacy of this American master will shine a bright spotlight on his brilliant and impactful career as a musician and ambassador for the arts.”
The gala will take place at 8 p.m. and is free to those who register for the event. The venue will also be accepting donations before and during the event. Donors who donate $100 or more will receive special benefits and gifts or any size will be matched by a group of donors.
