Discover Albany’s photo scavenger hunt “Albany I Spy” returns
Discover Albany, Albany Archives, Historic Albany Foundation and the Downtown Albany Business Improvement District have collaborated to create the fifth, semi-annual Albany I Spy scavenger hunt with new rules to follow social distancing guidelines. The event will take place on Saturday, July 18 beginning at 10 a.m.
Albany I Spy is a timed architectural scavenger hunt throughout downtown Albany. Teams will arrive at the Discover Albany Visitor Center and will be given a master clue sheet featuring images of obscure architectural details and riddles to help guide them on their hunt. Teams will sign up for staggered time slots, and will be separate for most of the day. The team with the best time wins. The winners will be announced at 1:30 p.m. that same day. Discover Albany encourages participants to grab a bite to eat, or shop and support local downtown businesses after their hunt.
In accordance with CDC guidelines, measures have been taken to assure everyone stays safe, and cautious of COVID-19. These include:
- Team members must stay together at all times
- Only up to six people per team from the same household or group
- Masks must be worn at all times
- Teams must sign up for a time slot via Eventbrite
- If participants displaying any symptoms of COVID-19 please stay home and do not participate
“There’s a lot going on downtown. Not only are there restaurants and retail, but rich history and unusual overlooked architectural details you won’t find anywhere else. With this in mind, we wanted the fifth edition of Albany I Spy to invite people back to downtown together, in a fun, engaging, responsible way,” said Matt Malette, creator of the popular social media page Albany Archives.
“People have been forced to drastically alter their Summer plans, so I’m delighted that we were able to team up with Albany Archives and the Downtown Albany Business Improvement District to bring back the successful Albany I Spy event providing a socially distant outdoor activity for our community to enjoy,” said Jill Delaney, president and CEO of Discover Albany. “What a great way for people to get outside, learn about the history of Albany and have some fun!”
