After 33 consecutive years, Western Massachusetts’ The Green River Festival will not be happening due to the pandemic. The festival and Northampton’s 93.9 The River have announced a three-day radio and webcast event on the weekend when the festival would have taken place. On July 10, 11, and 12, The Green River Festival On The Air: A Dream River Fantasy Festival will feature live sets from festival favorites past and present, plus exclusive backstage performances, artist interviews, and fan memories.

The Green River Festival Family Hour takes place at 10:00 AM on Saturday, July 11 and will feature video performances from family favorites Mr. G., Little Roots, Nick Of Time, Mr. Liam, The Suitcase Junket, plus guided art projects from The Art Garden. Find the Family Hour live on the festival’s Facebook page and at www.greenriverfestival.com.

Tune in to 93.9 The River all weekend long to hear the festival or stream it via www.greenriverfestival.com.

Festival director Jim Olsen says,”We are heartened and grateful that 84% of our fans who purchased festival tickets for this year have decided to hold onto their tickets until 2021 and forgo refunds. We want to show our appreciation and bring together our festival community by offering an incredible weekend of performances. We’re envisioning mini-listening parties in backyards and parks and hope to bring the spirit of the festival into homes everywhere.”

Named one of “fifty essential summer music festivals” by The New York Times, Green River Festival is Western Massachusetts’ signature summer event. For one weekend every July, Greenfield Community College hosts an outrageous celebration of music: a spectacular lineup of over 30 acts on three stages, the best in local food, beer and wine, handmade juried crafts at The Makers Market, a wide array of kid’s activities, a balloon illumination, and camping. NPR recently wrote, “The Green River Festival lineup gets more legendary by the year.”

Past Green River performers include Emmylou Harris, Buddy Guy, Lucinda Williams, Mavis Staples, Arlo Guthrie, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Taj Mahal, Gillian Welch & David Rawlings, Steve Earle, The Avett Brothers, Deer Tick, Neko Case, Calexico, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, CAKE, Fountains Of Wayne, Old Crow Medicine Show, Michael Franti & Spearhead, and many more.
