Caffe Lena’s Stay Home Sessions: June 19th – June 23rd

0

Saratoga is changing by the day. Sidewalk dining has returned, and a long spell of sunny, dry weather has resulted in full tables. Indoor dining resumes tomorrow. Caffe Lena will reopen in Phase 4, with our first show on July 16. Under normal circumstances, we plan our schedule nearly a year ahead. Now we’re making plans on just a few weeks notice with much of the music industry still shut down.  In other words, we’re not ready to announce the schedule because there are still too many gaps, but everything we have locked in is A++ and we’ll be putting some tickets (only 25 per show!) on sale soon. 🙂

We love seeing you arrive for a show, and we like to think the feeling is mutual. So, it’s with a mix of sadness and profound gratitude that we announce the departure of two members of our staff. Nancy Kass, our warm and welcoming Director of Development, who visited with you at every show for the past year and half, has decided to retire into a life of kayaking, hiking, music and family. Jarith Martin, the quiet and calm manager of our kitchen, who “made it work” with anyone and everyone willing to strap on an apron, is moving on to a new job. Both of these team members worked from the heart. We will miss them as we embark on new challenges.

Juneteenth Legacy – Live
In partnership with MLK Saratoga

First celebrated in 1865, Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery. Tonight’s performance features two Capital Region theater troupes with hosting and music by Garland Nelson. This live performance will be vulnerable, hopeful and artistic as it addresses America’s work in progress: our struggle to overcome racial inequality.

Saturday, June 20 – 8 PM
Rory Block
Live Viewing Party

Premiere blues guitarist Rory Block delivers a performance like no one else. She embodies instrumental mastery, spiritual passion and a deep knowledge of history as she performs standards and originals in the country blues and folk idiom. Rory will be joining us in the chat room from her home in Kentucky, adding comments and responding to questions as we watch together.

Sunday, June 21 – 8 PM – $15
Jeff Daniels – LIVE

Streamed live from Jeff Daniel’s home studio, this intimate and interactive performance is available exclusively through Caffe Lena. Daniels is an Emmy-winning actor, director and musician whose celebrated Broadway run as Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird is just one of innumerable career highlights. Your ticket includes an after-show Q&A with Jeff, so come prepared with a question!

Monday, June 22 – 8 PM
Local Artist Showcase – LIVE
Trace Ellis, Blaise Santangelo & Heather Meaney

We don’t know when we’ll be able to resume our Monday Open Mic, but we are gratified to showcase three talented local artists who were regular participants before the shutdown. We think you’ll be as impressed by their original artistry as we are!

Tuesday, June 23 – 8 PM
Storytelling Night – LIVE

Our Storytelling Open Mic is a popular monthly event that has been on hold since March. We’ve retooled the show to deliver stories right to your home. Kelvin Keraga, Lale Davidson and Barbara Palumbo will take turns at the mic for an evening of storytelling for adults.
