Stories From a Bar: Episode 32, Mark McCauslin @ Colonie Pride
Happy Pride Month!
While you may not find the usual pride celebrations this June, that’s not stopping Mark McCauslin from making sure the LGBTQ+ is represented around the town of Colonie. Mark is the founder of Colonie Pride, a community led organization in Colonie, NY for LGBTQ+ citizens and allies and the latest guest on the Stories From A Bar podcast.
In the latest episode, Mark and I talk about a number of topics including forming the organization Colonie Pride, his hopes and focus for the group, and his own experience coming out to his friends and Family. Most notably has been his successful efforts to get the town of Colonie to formally recognize Pride Month every year and all the support behind it. “Hearing the town supervisor read out all those emails, it was so awesome to hear, it was just really powerful to hear.”
While expectations had to be reeled in a bit this year because of the pandemic and quarantine Mark’s efforts have turned to social media and word of mouth to help grow the group for now.
