There will be an online reading of Josh Romeo’s original show CELL PLAY. The performance of CELL PLAY will be presented for free via Facebook live on Thursday 6/11 at 8 pm EST with a talkback with the writer and the actors afterward. Josh Romeo is a Capital Region native with over 50 credits at area theaters including Curtain Call Theatre, C-R Kids, and Consortium Actors among others. He is a Wagner College sophomore studying theater performance.

The script follows Milo Chondry and six other characters, all mirroring a part of the cell, locked in a bunker after the collapse of the government from a deadly virus. The story of their troubling life inside of Wellcare’s “safety cells” is told through their video diaries recorded on the camera provided for them.

This amazing cast is composed of performers from across the country who were looking to fill the void of free time now in their lives. The players include Capital Region’s own Patrick White (also a Nippertown contributor), as well as other New York natives, Matthew Tenorio and Megan Gomez-Campbell. Lila Cooper of Maryland and Kyle Munro of Massachusetts round out the North Easterners. The final two cast members are from much farther away, Andrew King from Louisiana and Mikayla Thrasher all the way from California.

Josh feels this performance medium allows the world to have easily accessible theatre in a time of uncertainty. “Writing is something I’ve always wanted to try and there is no better time than now to do so. I have had this idea of characters inspired by parts of the cell for some time now. That is my biggest goal in writing, to create characters that are fun and challenging for actors.” Josh says. Online performances are especially good for being able to workshop new plays such as CELL PLAY that were written in quarantine so they are ready to perform in person when the time comes.

Visit the Facebook event for more information and the live reading, Thursday 6/11 at 8pm.

In light of recent events in America and the capital region, the company of CELL PLAY will be collecting donations during the performance. The donations will be split 50/50 between The Black Theater Troupe of Upstate NY and the Albany Bail Fund for Black Lives.
