Caffe Lena’s Stay Home Sessions: Week of May 9th
Saratoga woke up to a dusting of snow, while outlying areas are still shoveling. This feels like further evidence that someone threw out the 2020 play book. We are so off-script! But, fortunately, off-script is where Caffe Lena lives, and they continue to meet the challenge of delivering music and encouragement each and every day.
Speaking of off-script, necessity being the mother of invention, Caffe Lena has the Mother Of All Anniversary Celebrations planned for you!
Thursday, May 21st – Caffe Lena Celebrates 60 Years of Song
Noon – Bonacio Construction’s flatbed trucks will roll around town with bands playing music on the back. Caffe Lena will announce the route in advance and they’d love to see you parked on the shoulder, waving and bopping in your decorated car.
7 PM – Anniversary Livestream Special – A two-hour online program of stories, songs and photos to celebrate each of our six decades. The Tip Jar will be open for business and Lena’s would love to have your voluntary support for this event that had originally been planned as their major fundraiser for 2020. But, regardless of what’s in your wallet these days, as long as your internet is up and running we want you to join us!!
All God’s critters got a place in the choir
Some sing low, and some sing higher
Some sing out loud on the telephone wire
And some just clap their hands or paws
….or anything you’ve got now!
Every Night at 8 PM!

Saturday, May 9, Mike Grutka – LIVE
Just think: Mike may be the only guy in the entire Capital Region with a real gig tonight. And that makes it a very precious event! Grutka is one of the stalwart’s of the Albany music scene. His dreamy acoustic pop and engaging personality make him a favorite on the airwaves and on live stages around the region. It will be so good to see him back in the saddle tonight!
Sunday, May 10, Upstate
Meet your mom in the chat room and enjoy a show together on Mother’s Day! This band is more than double the size of our current maximum allowable stage capacity, so we’re premiering our private archived footage from their last concert on our stage. The house was packed, the band rocked & crooned, and the energy sizzled! Relive a great night with Upstate in the chat room!
Monday, May 11, Chris Gockley with Bluebird & Woolly Bear – LIVE
Continuing our Monday night showcase series, we bring you two of the 518s fine emerging artists. Both are favorites at Caffe Lena’s Open Mic and gig regularly in coffeeshops and bars around the area. Enjoy their originals!
Tuesday, May 12, The Restless Age
Tonight we rebroadcast one of the best shows of the last twelve months. This amazing trio from Woodstock makes harmony-rich pop music that will stick in your mind for days. They usually back Donald Fagen of Steely Dan, but tonight you’ll hear their own originals. The guys will be joining us in the chat room.
Friday, May 15, Dan Berggren – LIVE
Berggren embodies the spirit of folk music with songs of everyday people meeting the challenges of life with courage and love. His rich voice and calming demeanor are just what we all need during these uncertain times. Dan will be speaking to the moment as we send his live performance straight to your living room.
Lunch Hour Live
We open our stage for community voices and educational programs weekdays from Noon to 12:30. These programs are streamed live on Caffe Lena’s Facebook page. You can contribute to the conversation by typing comments.
