Affinities and Outliers: Highlights from the University at Albany Fine Art Collections February 4th to April 4th
The University Art Museum at the University at Albany will be presenting various programs from exhibition tours, creative life conversations, art workshops, yoga, and even a Wikipedia edit-a-thon to go along with the exhibition Affinities and Outliers. All programs presented in the Museum from February 4th to April 4th are free and open to the public so make sure to bring all your friends and your family!
Exhibition tours will take place every Wednesday at noon from February 5th to April 1st. These 45-minute tours of the exhibition with artist and UAM Education and Public Engagement Coordinator Berly Brown are not one to miss!
There will also be creative life conversations with senior art critic and columnist for the New York Magazine, Jerry Saltz on Tuesday, March 24th at 6 p.m. for Book Signing and Reception, and 7 p.m. for Conversation at the UAlbany Campus Center West Auditorium. Joe Donahue from WAMC “Roundtable” will be the host for this event.
Interested in abstract art? Look no further. Christine Snyder will be leading three hands-on artmaking workshops based on the artwork in the exhibition Affinities and Outliers. The first workshop, Abstract College will be based on Olle Baertling, and will take place on February 22 from 1-3 p.m. Rubber Stamp will be based on Hilda Katz, and will take place on March 7th from 1-3 p.m. The last workshop, Book Page Art will be based on Tim Rollins and K. O. S. and will take place on March 28th from 1-3 p.m.
The museum will also be holding a Wikipedia Edit-a-thon: Art + Feminism on March 5th from 12 -3 p.m. At this event, there will be a communal updating of Wikipedia entries on subjects related to the women artists included in the exhibition Affinities and Outliers. This event is co-sponsored with University Libraries.
Are you looking for a way to unwind after a long, stressful day? There will even yoga on Saturdays at the museum. Carrie Will will lead on February 29th from noon to 1 p.m. Meghan Hogan will lead on April 4th from noon to 1 p.m. If you do not have mats or props, do not fret! The Capital Region’s Traveling Yoga Studio will provide everything you will need. Donations are welcome.
