February Winter Carnivals in Saranac Lake and Lake George
Spring is slowly making its way here but don’t worry, there are still plenty of fun winter activities left in the season. The Saranac Lake Winter Carnival is happening now until Sunday, Feb 9th with the main attraction being the Ice Palace. This impressive structure is built from volunteers in the community, who brave the winter elements for weeks, constructing and sculpting the frozen blocks into a winter wonderland. The Ice Palace is open 24/7 and lit at night from dusk until dawn. There is no fee for entry or for parking. The Ice Palace will remain up and lit at night after the carnival is over as long as the weather allows for it. The Winter Carnival will see an array of events this week including live music, book sales, snow shoe races, hockey, rugby, pancake breakfasts and a big parade as the finale. If Saranac Lake is a little too far north for you, Lake George will be hosting winter activities all month long. Every weekend in February, the Lake George Village will have family friendly events off and on the ice (weather permitting). All weekends will feature a bonfire on the beach at Shepard Park, wood carving demos, pony rides, a polar plunge and Cornhole Games hosted by The Garrison. Click here for the daily weekend schedule featuring new events such as car races on the ice, fire works, keg toss and chicken wing cook off. With all these fun and free events going on, there’s little room for excuses. Get outside and experience the beauty of winter in Upstate NY.
