1948: Indian political and spiritual leader Mahatma Gandhi was murdered by a Hindu extremist.
1956: Elvis Presley recorded “Blue Suede Shoes.”
1958: The first two-way moving sidewalk was put in service at Love Field in Dallas.
1961: The Shirelles’ “Will You Love Me Tomorrow?” hit No. 1 for the first of two weeks.
1968: Bobby Goldsboro recorded “Honey,” which became one of the biggest hits of the year and spent five weeks at No. 1.
1969: The Beatles staged their famous rooftop concert on the roof of Apple Records in London. It was their last public performance.
