RIP: Bruno Ganz, 1941-2019

The Swiss actor Bruno Ganz – who portrayed an angel who longed to be human in Wim Wenders’ 1987 masterwork, “Wings of Desire” – died Friday (February 15) at his home in Zurich. He was 77 years old.

Ganz was also featured in Wenders’ films “The American Friend” and “Far Away So Close,” and he is perhaps best remembered for his starring, meme-generating role as Adolph Hitler in Oliver Hirschbiegel’s 2004 film “Downfall.”
