Hudson Jazz Festival Returns to Hudson Hall

The second annual Hudson Jazz Festival takes over the historic Hudson Hall this weekend with four concerts, a free film screening and a workshop all taking place over the course of the three-day fest.

With a Hudson Jazz Festival weekend pass – priced at $90 – you will receive priority access and seating to every Hudson Jazz Festival performance and event. Tickets to individual events are also available.

Here’s the schedule of events for the 2019 Hudson Jazz Festival:

TODAY (FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 15)

BOBBY SANABRIA & QUARTETO ACHÉ

The Latin Jazz drummer-percussionist and his band – Peter Brainin (saxophones, flute, percussion), Darwin Noguera (piano, vocals) and Andy Eulau (bass) – pump out infectious grooves that are grounded in Sanabria’s tenures with such legendary figures as Dizzy Gillespie, Tito Puente, Mongo Santamaria, Paquito D’Rivera, the U.S. Jazz Ambassadors, and the Godfather of Afro-Cuban Jazz, Mario Bauzá.

SATURDAY (FEBRUARY 16)

PIANO SUMMIT: KIRK NUROCK, LYNNE ARRIALE & SULLIVAN FORTNER

A treat for jazz piano devotees, three world-class musicians take to the keys in one afternoon of jazz piano immersion.

FILM: “THE MODERN JAZZ QUARTET: FROM RESIDENCY TO LEGACY”

Directed by George Schuller, the 2018 film features the members of the legendary Modern Jazz Quartet in a fascinating 65-minute collection of remembrances, anecdotes and events highlighting the MJQ’s
role in developing the iconic School of Jazz at Lenox’s Music Inn. Followed by a Q&A with Schuller and Armen Donelian.

FEARLESS MASTERS: DAVID LIEBMAN, JAY CLAYTON, JAY ANDERSON & ARMEN DONELIAN

An evening concert by a truly adventurous band – saxman David Liebman, vocalist Jay Clayton, bassist Jay Anderson and pianist Armen Donelian – whose collective credits range from Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins and Chet Baker to David Bowie, Frank Zappa and Tom Waits.

SUNDAY (FEBRUARY 17)

HUDSON JAZZ FESTIVAL WORKSHOP
11am-1pm
FREE; registration required
Intermediate-level middle-school age or higher musicians are invited to join pianist Armen Donelian and saxophonist Marc Mommaas for a hands-on workshop exploring the language of jazz performance and composition based on the curriculum and methods of the annual Hudson Jazz Workshop.

AMIR ELSAFFAR & THE TWO RIVERS QUARTET
Sunday, February 17 at 3pm
Tickets: $25
Jazz and Middle Eastern music beautifully intertwine in this dynamic ensemble led by trumpeter, santur player, and vocalist Amir ElSaffar. He’ll be joined by Ole Mathisen (saxophone), George Ziadeh (oud) and Zafer Tawil (violin, oud, percussion).
