MUSIC: Jazz Is PHSH @ Proctors’ GE Theatre, Schenectady. The collective of prominent musicians from the jazz and jam scenes — including veterans of Santana, Funkadelic, the Dave Matthews Band, The Flecktones, the Sun Ra Arkestra, Snarky Puppy and more — have come together to reimagine the classic music of Phish in an instrumental, jazz-fusion setting. 7:30pm. $30.50
MUSIC: Camp Saint Helene @ OR Gallery & Tavern, Hudson. With Secrets of French Girls, a new dark-folk/fairytale trio featuring guitarist-songwriter Dennis Herbert, vocalist-accordionist Ryder Cooley and percussionist Greg Haymes. It’s a double debut of two new Hudson-based bands. 8pm. Donation encouraged.
MUSIC: Dwight & Nicole @ Caffe Lena, Sarratoga Springs. Deep souls, kind hearts, rocking beats. The Americana roots duo of Dwight and Nicole have rounded out their R&B harmonies and guitars with the addition of drummer Ezra Okland (formerly of Kat Wright), as heard on their much-anticipated new album Electric Lights. 7pm. $20.
ARTIST TALK: Mark McCarty @ Union College’s Feigenbaum Center For Visual Arts, Schenectady. In conjunction with the photography exhibits “Donna Fitzgerald: Italy & Vietnam” and “Mark McCarty: Skin,” McCarty gives a talk at 3:30pm, followed by a reception at 4:30pm. FREE.
MUSIC: Dar Williams @ the Cohoes Music Hall, Cohoes. She’s been called “one of America’s very best singer-songwriters” by The New Yorker. She’s released ten studio albums and authored four books including her latest, “What I Found in a Thousand Towns.” With Girl Blue. 8pm. $35, $40 & $45; students $20.
READING: Steven Pinker @ UAlbany’s Page Hall, Albany. The neuroscientist and best-selling author of “Enlightenment Now: The Case for Reason, Science, Humanism and Progress” kicks off the new semester of events for the New York State Writers Institute. 7:30pm. FREE.
COMEDY: Bert Kreischer @ The Egg’s Hart Theatre, Albany. The Body Shots World Tour lands in the Capital City for a two-night stand for the often-shirtless stand-up comedian. 8pm. $37.50. UPDATE: This show and Thursday’s show are both sold out…
