The Figgs’ Pete Donnelly brings his other band – the Pete Donnelly Combo, also featuring Fred Berman (drums), Ray Long (bass) and John Cunningham (guitar) to Caffe Lena in Saratoga Springs at 7pm on Thursday, January 31, in support of his new album, Phases of the Moon, which finds him offering up selections by Thelonious Monk, Ornette Coleman, Erik Satie and Claude Debussy, alongside his original tunes. Tickets are $20 in advance; $22 at the door. Highlights of Lena’s upcoming February schedule include the legendary David Amram at 8pm on Friday, February 1 ($35 in advance; $37 at the door); two shows by Ryan Montbleau on Saturday, February 2 ($24 in advance; $26 at the door); Upstate (formerly Upstate Rubdown) on Thursday, February 7; an evening of banjo and fiddle duets by Tony Trischka & Bruce Molsky on Saturday, February 9 ($28 in advance; $30 at the door); a two-night stand by African greats Ladysmith Black Mambazo on Tuesday & Wednesday, February 12 & 13 ($75 in advance; $77 at the door); a Valentine’s Day show by Davd Wax Museum on Thursday, February 14 ($24 in advance; $26 at the door); and Tom Chapin on Saturday, February 23 ($32 in advance; $34 at the door).

Post-punk pioneers Gang of Four are slated to ride into Colony in Woodstock at 8pm on Sunday, February 24. Tickets are on sale now, priced at $25 in advance; $35 at the door. Other notable new shows on the calendar at Colony are a solo acoustic performance by guitar hero Gary Lucas at 8pm on Friday, February 22 ($15 in advance; $20 at the door) and Mipso with the Brother Brothers at 8pm on Saturday, February 16 (*$10 in advance; $15 at the door).

Putnam Place in Saratoga Springs will play host to cello-rockers Rasputina at 9pm on Friday, February 8. The Dust Bowl Faeries’ Ryder Cooley will open the show. Tickets are on Sale now, priced at $17 in advance; $20 at the door. And Zach Deputy takes over the Putnam Place stage on Thursday, February 21 with the Big Takeover kicking off the evening at 9pm. Tickets are $15.

Greater Nippertown’s own jazz vocalist-violinist Teresa Broadwell and her band – featuring Mike Novakowski, Leo Russo, Pete Toigo, Mike Lamkin and Cliff Brucker – will celebrate the release of their new Nat King Cole-inspired CD, Just We, at the Stockade Inn in Schenectady at 4pm Sunday, January 13. Admission is $15; students $5. The performance will be followed by an open jam session from 6-7pm.

Johnny Rabb’s Big Band, the Tichy Boys and a variety of special guests with honor the King of Rock & Roll with the annual Elvis Birthday Bash at the Hangar on the Hudson in Troy at 8pm on Saturday, January 5. Tickets are $15.

The Eighth Step kicks off its 2019 season with a concert by singer-songwriter Suede at Proctors’ GE Theatre in Schenectady at 7:30pm on Saturday, January 5. Tickets are on sale now, priced at $26 in advance; $28 at the door; $45 Gold Circle.

Eric Clapton declared that Albert Lee is “the greatest guitarist in the world,” and you can decide for yourself when Lee steps into the spotlight at the Strand Theatre in Hudson Falls at 7:30pm on Wednesday, January 9. Tickets are on sale now, priced at $25.

Earlier this year the Alberta, Canada-based pop-punk quintet Calling All Captains signed to Albany’s Equal Vision Records, and now they’re slated to make their Greater Nippertown debut at the Low Beat on Saturday, March 30. Makari is slated to open the show.

Tribute band Almost Queen lands at Rivers Casino & Resort’s Event Center in Schenectady at 8pm on Friday, February 22. Free tickets are availablt exclusively to Rush Rewards members.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center in Great Barrington has announced a pair of new concerts – Broadway star Patti Lupone and Beatles tribute band the Fab Faux. Tickets for both shows will go on sale to the general public at 12noon on Friday (December 28).

The Egg will play host to Lindsay Dashew’s “In My Life: A Cabaret Retrospective” at 7pm on Saturday, January 26. Dashew will serve up an evening of storytelling and songs from Broadway blockbusters such as Wicked, Waitress, In the Heights, Funny Girl and more for the benefit of the Alzheimer’s Association. Tickets are $15; students/seniors $10.

POSTPONED: Originally slated to play the Strand Theatre in Hudson Falls last week, the concert by Genesis tribute band Rael has been postponed to Saturday, June 29.

Patsy Cline impersonator Courtney Shayne beings her “Memories of Patsy” show to The Linda in Albany at 8pm on Saturday, January 19. Tickets are on sale now, priced at $15 in advance; $20 at the door. Also coming up at The Linda, Gypsy jazz guitar great Stephane Wrembel will be joined by the Hot Club of Saratoga, Zack Cohen’s Beat/Swing Project and Hot Tuesday for a Gypsy swing dance party at 7pm on Saturday, February 2 ($15 in advance; $20 at the door); Van Morrison tribute band Moondance at 8pm on Saturday, February 9 ($20 in advance; $25 at the door); and genre-melding trio The Accidentals at 8pm on Friday, March 1 ($15 in advance; $20 at the door).
