RIP: All Over Albany, 2008-2018
After a decade online, All Over Albany is calling it quits. The website run by Mary Darcy and Greg Dahlmann will publish its final posts and pixels on Monday, December 31.
Since 2008 AOA has been delivering a daily dose of news, culture, history, community and all sorts of odds ‘n’ ends about all things Albany. Or as they explain on the site, “all the stuff you’d tell your friends. It’s stuff you want to know, with a few things you need to know – and a healthy dose of stuff you never knew you wanted or needed to know.”
On Thursday (December 20), AOA posted the announcement of their decision to shut down the site. “Running any sort of media organization right now is a constantly shifting challenge as the way people consume information evolves and giant platforms devour more attention and advertising dollars,” they wrote in part. “We’re happy to say that traffic to AOA has been OK, and we’ve been making enough money to keep things afloat. We are grateful to all the advertisers who’ve bought ads with AOA, especially those of you who took a chance on us in the beginning. But the last few years have been a grind, and it’s time to go a different direction.”
We’re very sorry to see another valuable Greater Nippertown information asset vanishing from the dot.com landscape. 2019 won’t be quite the same without AOA, but we certainly wish all the best for Greg and Mary in their future adventures…
