MUSIC: Speedy Ortiz @ Colony, Woodstock. Since the release of their album Twerp Verse earlier this year, the band has been touring nonstop with the likes of The Breeders, Against Me!, Liz Phair, as well as opening for the Foo Fighters at Fenway Park. And front person Sadie Dupuis released her first poetry book, “Mouthguard.” With Guerilla Toss and Top Nachos. 8pm. $15.
MUSIC: Chris Pasin’s “Ornettiquette” @ The Falcon, Marlboro. The trumpeter and his band pay tribute to the music of Ornette Coleman and Don Cherry as they celebrate the release of the new album, Ornettiquette, on the Planet Arts label. 8pm. Donations encouraged.
MUSIC: Seth Glier @ Caffe Lena, Saratoga Springs. The Grammy nominee takes us back to the folk world of a decade ago, before bluegrass-inspired string bands took over the scene. He’s an emotive, illuminating and beautifully passionate solo singer-songwriter. Each song is forged in a fire of feeling, and each will take you somewhere… to compassion, memory, hope, longing. It’s good to know that the art of the ballad is in such good hands. 7pm. $22.
EVENT: Troy Victorian Stroll @ various locations, Troy. Celebrate the holidays with family and friends at the 36th annual Stroll, the Northeast’s largest free holiday festival with more than 100 live performances throughout the day, including the Lustre Kings, Albany Pro Musica, Reggie’s Red Hot Feetwarmers, Three Quarter North, Jeff Strange, Johnny Rabb & the Tichy Boys, The Refrigerators and, of course, Sax-O-Claus. 11am-5pm. MUSIC: The Steve Slagle Quartet @ Senate Garage, Kingston. The saxman and his band – Lawrence Fields (piano), John Menegon (bass) and Adam Nussbaum (drums) – pay tribute to the music of Dewey Redman. 7:30pm.
MUSIC: The Albany Symphony @ the Palace Theatre, Albany. A sleigh full of talent from Greater Nippertown performs your favorite Christmas carols, selections from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite, sparking holiday favorites and more. Plus a special visit from Santa Claus. 3pm.
THEATER: Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley @ Capital Repertory Theatre, Albany. Director Maggie Mancinelli-Cahill invites you to spend the holiday season with your favorite “Pride and Prejudice” characters, as they gather at Pemberley, the stately home of Mr. and Mrs. Darcy. 2pm. $22-$65. MUSIC: Wesleyan Javanese Gamelan @ Williams College’s Chapin Hall, Williamstown. Under the direction of I.M. Harjito, the ensemble presents the classical music and dance of Central Java, Indonesian wayang puppet play, dance, and gamelan – a magnificent orchestra of bronze gongs, xylophones, drums and string instruments. 3pm.
THEATER: “4 by Ives” @ Mescal Hornbeck Community Center, Woodstock. Last chance! Performing Arts of Woodstock presents a quartet of one-act comedies penned by David Ives and directed by Lora Lee Ecobelli. 1:30pm. $23; students/seniors $20.
DANCE: Albany Berkshire Ballet @ the Colonial Theatre, Pittsfield. The annual production of “The Nutcracker” is choreographed by ABB Artistic Director Madeline Cantarella Culpo, with lavish sets and costumes. 1:30 & 4:30pm.
THEATER: We Used to Wear Bonnets & Get High All the Time @ Skidmore College’s Janet Kinghorn Bernhard Theater, Saratoga Springs. Last chance! It’s the world premiere of an all-female response play to Eugene O’Neill’s classic Long Day’s Journey into Night, written and directed by celebrated Brooklyn-based playwright and director, Julia May Jonas. 8pm. $12; students/seniors $8.
