MUSIC: The Anat Cohen Quartet @ the Unitarian Universalist Society of Schenectady Whisperdome, Schenectady. A Place for Jazz wraps up its fall concert season with the Israeli clarinetist-saxophonist who has won admiration and acclaim for her expressive virtuosity and stage presence. The Jazz Journalists Association has voted her as Clarinetist of the Year nine years in a row, and she has topped both the Critics and Readers Polls in the clarinet category in Downbeat magazine every year since 2011. 7:30pm. $20; students $10; children under 12 free.
MUSIC: Thurston Moore Group @ BSP Kingston, Kingston. The ex-Sonic Youth guitarist offers new noise guitar explorations with his bandmates Deb Googe, James Sedwards and Steve Shelley. With special guests Wobbly and Byron Coley. 8pm. $25.
MUSIC: The Bob Warren Band @ Caffe Lena, Saratoga Springs. The Greenwich singer-songwriter is joined by his brother Don Warren on guitar; Tony Markellis on bass; Danny Whelchel on drums; Matt Donnelly on keyboards; and Joy MacKenzie on vocals. 8pm. $24. Also at 8pm on Saturday.
MUSIC: Dave Alvin & Jimmie Dale Gilmore with the Guilty Ones @ Levon Helm Studios, Woodstock. Roots music legends, Dave Alvin and Jimmie Dale Gilmore, have been friends for 30 years, but only recently realized they had never played music with each other before. So in 2017, Grammy winner Alvin and Grammy nominee Gilmore, decided to hit the highway to swap songs, tell stories, and share their life experiences. With Milton. 8pm. $30 & $50.
CIRCUS/THEATER: Cirque Eloize @ Proctors, Schenectady. “Hotel” is the story of a place and its transient travelers. A stopover where lives intersect briefly, just long enough for tales and memories to be forged… Let acrobatics, theatre, dance and live music guide you through this intimate refuge, styled with an avant-garde scenography inspired by the elegance of only the greatest hotels. 8pm. THEATER: Night of the Living Dead – Live @ the National Museum of Dance, Saratoga Springs. iTheatre Saratoga/CPI’s zombie-filled production of features live drama fused with multi-media production. 8:30pm. $25; students $15. Through Saturday, November 3.
THEATER: Uncommon Women and Others @ Sand Lake Center for the Arts, Averill Park. Karen Christina Jones directs the Callaloo Theater production of Wendy Wasserstein’s breakthrough play exploring the lives of five close friends and classmates at Mount Holyoke College. 8pm. $20. Through Sunday, November 4.
COMEDY: Kelly MacFarland @ Comedy Works, Saratoga Springs. As an experienced stand-up comedian, Kelly has an extensive and well-rounded resume including comedy clubs, theaters, colleges and several television appearances. 7:30 & 9:30pm. $25. Also at 7:30 & 9:30pm Saturday.
PARTICIPATORY DANCE: Albany First Friday Swing Dance @ the Albany Elks Lodge, Albany. Graham Tichy & the New Lowdown are the featured band; Jason Fenton offers free swing dance lessons at 7pm. Live music and dancing at 8pm. $15; students/seniors $10.
THEATER: Million Dollar Quartet @ Cohoes Music Hall, Cohoes. The music of Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Johnny Cash comes to life in this incredible true story of one night when these four icons came together to play at Sun Records.
