Old Songs Announces Fall 2018 Concert Schedule

Yeah, it’s September, and those fall concert schedules continue to roll out…

Old Songs out in Voorheesville has announced a half dozen concerts for its fall season of shows, beginning with the Celtic quintet Imar on Friday, September 22, and stretching through the holiday season with John Roberts’ “In Praise of Christmas” show on Saturday, December 8.

Here’s the complete schedule for Old Songs’ fall 2018 season:

ÍMAR
Saturday, September 22, 7:30pm
$25; children ages 12 & under $5
A five-piece ensemble with a strong shared background in Irish music. Two members were with Barrule at the 2016 Old Songs Festival. Members include Adam Brown, Ryan Murphy, Tomas Callister, Adam Rhodes and Mohsen Amini.

DONNA HEBERT’S 70TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION CONCERT
Sunday, September 23, 2pm
$20; children ages 12 & under $5
An all-day fundraiser for Old Songs, the celebration features Lyn Hardy & The Cupcakes, Gretchen Koehler & Max Cohen, Chanterelle, Rare Spirits, author Jane Yolen & 3 Ravens, Mist Covered Mountains and Fennig’s All-Stars with caller Tony Parkes for an afternoon concert (2pm), potluck dinner (5:30pm), an evening concert (6:30pm) and a dance (7:30pm).

USTAD SHAFAAT KHAN
Friday, October 12, 7:30pm
$25; children ages 12 & under $5
Old Songs welcomes back world-renowned Indian classical musician Ustad Shafaat Khan. His unique concert presentations include Indian classical/folk music on sitar, tabla and vocals, Sufi inspired compositions and a multi-cultural fusion ranging from western classical, jazz and rock to pop, flamenco and African rhythms.

ANDREA BEATON & TROY MacGILLIVRAY
Friday, October 26, 7:30pm
$25; children ages 12 & under $5
Andrea Beaton is a powerful fiddler, composer and stepdancer. Hailing from two of Cape Breton’s most renowned musical families, she charms crowds all over the globe with her music, which is both true to her roots and strongly individual. Troy MacGillivray, the multi-talented, multi-award winning instrumentalist from Nova Scotia, is known for his ability to unearth the lesser-played but great tunes of respected composers.

FORWARD INTO LIGHT
Saturday, November 17, 7:30pm
$25; children ages 12 & under $5
Old Songs’ Andy Spence compiled, directed and produced this folk-theater production about the American Women’s Suffrage Movement in New York State in song and story featuring Annie Rosen, Toby Stover, Peggy Lynn, Dan Duggan, George Wilson, Bill Spence, Terry Leonino and Greg Artzner.

IN PRAISE OF CHRISTMAS
Saturday, December 8, 7:30pm
$25; children ages 12 & under $5
A program of songs and carols from England, Wales and Spain, all in English translations. Performing will be John Roberts on hurdy-gurdy, concertinas and vocals; Lisa Preston on baroque triple harp, celtic harp and piano; and Armand Aromin on violin.
