Veteran new Orleans-based Grammy Award-winners the Rebirth Brass Band bring their funky second-line strut to Putnam Place in Saratoga Springs at 8:30pm on Thursday, Tickets are on sale now, priced at $25 in advance; $28 at the door.

The sublime soul singer Bettye LaVette steps into the spotlight at Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock at 8pm on Friday, October 5. Tickets are on sale now, priced at $35 & $55. Also at the studios, Shawn Colvin plays an acoustic show on Friday, November 9 with Simi Stone opening the show at 8pm. Priced at $45 & $75, tickets go on sale at 10am on Friday (September 7).

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: A pair of new concerts have popped up on the calendar at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall – Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Art Garfunkel and the Celtic Christmas show by Cherish the Ladies. Tickets go on sale at 10am on Friday (September 7).

The holiday season starts early at the Low Beat in Albany, when favorite sons The Figgs break out the jingle bell rock for a homecoming show on Friday, November 2. Tickets are on sale now, priced at $10.

Proctors in Schenectady has added quite a number of new performances to the calendar, including concerts by Americana fave Hayes Carll at the GE Theatre on 7:30pm Tuesday, October 9 ($30), former Foreigner lead vocalist Lou Gramm at 8pm on Saturday, December 29 ($TBA) and an audience interactive concert by E Street Band drummer Max Weinberg’s Jukebox at 7:30pm on Friday, January 11 ($TBA).

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Live! Folklife Concert Series returns to Crandall Public Library’s Folklife Center in Glens Falls this fall featuring a half dozen free concerts by Ryanhood, Quickstep, Imar, Marty Wendell, Maivish and Julin & Epstein.

Beat Happening’s Calvin Johnson is slated to release his new solo album, A Wonderful Beast on K records, on Friday, October 12, and he’ll be celebrating the next night (Saturday, October 13) with a concert at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs. Details TBA…

WWE Hall of Famer and Glens Falls native “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan serves up an evening of no-holds-barred comedy and storytelling at Glens Falls’ Wood Theater at 8pm on Saturday October 6. Tickets are on sale now, priced at $25 in advance; $30 at the door.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Palace Theatre is hosting a two-night stand with the Disco Biscuits, as well as a holiday concert with Jewel and her family. Tickets go on sale at 10am on Friday (September 7).

British indie rockers The Kooks will take the stage at the Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park on Saturday, December 1 in support of their brand new album, Let’s Go Sunshine. Tickets go on sale at 10am on Friday (September 7), priced at $25 in advance; $28 at the door.

Reggae pioneers Black Uhuru make a tour stop at Club Helsinki in Hudson at 9pm on Saturday, September 22 with tickets priced at $28 & $38. Also at Club Helsinki, at 8pm on Sunday, October 7, Mrs. Smith’s “twisted, rock comedy-cabaret on acid” answers the question, “What happens when a proper Upper East Side cat lady is kidnapped by a Norwegian Death Metal band and suffers the Stockholm Syndrome?” Tickets are $25 in advance; $30 at the door.

The Beverly in Kingston welcomes Jessica Pratt (in trio formation) for a post-Thanksgiving show at 8pm on Friday, November 23. Priced at $15, tickets are on sale now…

The sophomore outing for Capital Records Live! will take place at Proctors’ GE Theatre in Schenectady at 7:30pm on Sunday, October 14 with Greater Nippertown favorites Dark Honey, the North and South Dakotas, The Sea The Sea and Bad Mothers digging into the rich songbag of hits from the year 1969. Tickets are on sale now, priced at $25.

Guided By Voices take over Gateway City Arts in Holyoke on Tuesday, October 23. Park Doing opens the show at 8pm. Priced at $30 in advance; $35 at the door, tickets are on sale now…

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Egg has announced two more new concerts – Bebel Gilberto and Cyrille Aimee. Tickets go on sale to the general public at 11am on Friday (September 7).

The Eighth Step is sponsoring “Songwriting at Sagamore,” a four-day immersive gathering at Great Camp Sagamore in Raquette Lake. From Monday-Thursday, September 24-27, a stellar ensemble of well-traveled and seasoned songwriters – including David Roth, Tret Fure, Joe Crooskston, Sara Milonovich and Dan Berggren – will lead an all-levels intensive in the crafting and performance of songs as a powerful force for growth and change. The musical retreat is priced at $475 per person.

The Woodstock Playhouse is playing host to the Woodstock Invitational Luthiers Showcase’s String Sampler Concert featuring Della Mae with the Maria Zemantauski Ensemble and Michael Chapdelaine at 8pm on Saturday, October 27. Tickets are on sale now, priced at $40, $50 & $65.
