MUSIC: Sylvan Esso @ the Upstate Concert Hall, Clifton Park. Amelia Randall Meath and Nicholas Sanborn’s sophomore album, What Now, is the sound of a band truly fulfilling the potential and promise of their debut. Everything has evolved – the production is bolder, the vocals are more intense, the melodies are more infectious, and the songs shine that much brighter. 8pm. $30.
MUSIC: Sidi Toure @ the Half Moon, Hudson. The acclaimed practitioner of songhaï music has earned two Malian National Arts Awards for best singer. Touré led Gao’s regional orchestra, the Songhaï Stars, prior to going out on his own and now with his fourth album, Toubalbero he has created a danceable, dynamic, joyous album played with some of the most exciting new faces on the Mailian music scene. 9pm. $10.
DANCE: Trinity Irish Dance Company @ Saratoga Performing Arts Center, Saratoga Springs. The dance company makes their SPAC debut with an evening of high-flying, quick-footed, athletic, yet artistic dance, set against original contemporary Irish music. 8pm. $27, $37 & $57.
OPERA: Cunning Little Vixen @ Glimmerglass Opera, Cooperstown. Director E. Loren Meeker takes a fresh look at Janáček’s woodland fable about a forester, sung by Eric Owens, who stumbles upon a vixen cub and takes her home. Both have their assumptions about the world challenged. 1:30pm. Through Saturday, August 25.
