Happy Birthday, Bob: Dylan 77 @ the Low Beat on Thursday

Bob Dylan celebrates his 77th birthday on Thursday (May 24), and there are quite a few musical celebrations on tap all around Greater Nippertown.

On Thursday evening, the Low Beat will play host to Dylan 77, and if you remember the great Dylan birthday bashes of yesteryear at Union College, then you know that you’re in for quite a treat. For 10 years, Dale Metzger hosted the Local 518’s biggest Bob Dylan Birthday Bash at Union College in Schenectady. The last one took place in 2007. Now 10 years later, the tradition is being revived at the Low Beat in Albany with a full night of music from the rich songbag of one of America’s all-time greatest songwriters.

Here’s the line-up of performers:

The evening is a celebration of the music of Bob Dylan featuring performances by the cream of Greater Nippertown’s music scene, including Michael Eck, the Willroy Band, Jim Gaudet, Bryan Thomas, Mitch Elrod, Kevin Maul & Peggy Lecuyer, Val Haynes, Todd Nelson, Ramblin Jug Stompers, MotherJudge & Sten Isachsen, Rick Bedrosian, Zimmerbeat, Tom Raider, Jason Martin, Mike Kelley & Friends, Skeezy Jeezy, Rick Bolton and special guests, capped off with an all-star finale.

The festivities – which will also include t-shirt giveaways and, of course, birthday cake, too – kick off at 7:30pm. Admission is $10, which will benefit Eden’s Rose Foundation and Albany Victory Gardens.

Wow, that’s an excellent lineup. Will RJS tackle “Visions of Johanna” at the show?
