The third annual Clearwater Benefit Concert/Pete Seeger Memorial Concert was held recently at The Linda in Albany. Again hosted by WAMC-FM’s Wanda Fischer, this year’s edition featured three bands of diverse musical styles.

Local bluegrass favorites Three Quarter North opened the show with traditional music either written by or sung by Seeger, highlighted by a particularly beautiful rendition of “Turn, Turn, Turn.”

Steve Smith’s Bounce Back Band played reggae versions of Seeger’s music, including a rousing sing-along to his tirade against “Garbage.”

The show closed with an exhilarating set by the eclectic jazzy-folk group Annie & the Hedonists playing a knock-out set of songs of freedom and struggle. The quartet was bolstered by the addition of a new member better known in the world of rock than folk, master druummer Jerry Marotta.

Ending with the traditional sing-along of “This Land Is Your Land,” the concert served to remind us all of the music and spirit of Pete Seeger for another year.
