MASS MoCA Announces New Concert

MASS MoCA in North Adams has already claimed a spot as one of Greater Nippertown’s best summer concert venues with upcoming shows by the Soul Rebels (May 26), The Decemberists (June 15), Grizzly Bear (June 16), Ray LaMontagne and Neko Case (June 29), Courtney Barnett (July 12), Blondie (August 3) and more, as well as the annual FreshGrass festival.

Now they’ve announced that they’ll be capping off the summer and launching into the fall with a concert by Angel Olsen at the Hunter Center at 8pm on Saturday, September 29.

From the low-fi, sparse, melancholic folk of her 2010 EP, Strange Cacti, to the electrified, polished rock ‘n’ roll bursting from 2016’s acclaimed My Woman, Olsen has refused to succumb to any single genre, expectation or vision. Singing her precise, often revelatory lyrics with a warbling, wild voice that blends Dolly Parton and Patti Smith, Olsen swirls sun-kissed dream pop and brooding garage rock into something whole, impressionistic and new.

Opening the concert for Olsen will be electronic music artist Julianna Barwick.

Tickets go on sale at 10am on Friday (May 4), priced at $30 in advance; $40 at the door; and $50 preferred.
