THEATER: Proctors Hosts World Premiere of “Love in Firenze” [Berkshire on Stage]
A Greater Nippertown songwriting team that’s been together for 50 years is premiering their first musical at The Addy at Proctors in Schenectady this weekend from Thursday-Sunday (April 26-29).
Herb Weisburgh of Albany and Ed Munger of Schenectady wrote Love in Firenze over the past 15 years. The two-act musical will be performed by an all-local cast under the direction of Steve Suriano of Schenectady.
“This has been a labor of love for more than a decade, and Ed and I are so pleased to bring this original show to local audiences at Proctors,” Weisburgh said.
The lighthearted musical set in the 1980s tells the story of an American family vacationing in Firenze (Florence), Italy, whose members each find their own romance in the city — with some surprises along the way.
At the play’s heart is an Italian opera singer and her two romantic rivals – one from the American family, the other from Firenze – vying for her affection.
There are plenty of laughs, singing and dancing, twists and turns, along with beautiful, romantic ballads as the characters try to sort out a love triangle and a case of mistaken identity.
