For members of the 72-year-old Mohawk Hudson Male Chorus Association, last Saturday was a day-long celebration of fellowship and song featuring a group rehearsal, dinner and evening concert in the auditorium of Rensselaer’s Doane Stuart School. The Mendelssohn Club of Kingston, Catskill Glee Club and the Mendelssohn Club of Albany each presented three-song sets in the first half of the program, and then combined voices for a nine-song set following intermission.
Highlights included the Mendelssohn Club of Kingston’s version of “I Will Rise,” the Catskill Glee Club’s take on Rodgers & Hammerstein’s “You’ll Never Walk Alone” and the Mendelssohn Club of Albany’s Norman Luboff arranged “Colorado Trail.” The combined club’s closing number, “Why We Sing,” said it all!
