Fundraiser Fun: Linda Lavin, Performathon, Floodwood


The Spencertown Academy Arts Center is hosting an evening with the Tony Award-winning actress Linda Lavin and her husband-artist Steve Bakunas at 5pm on Saturday, April 28 to benefit the restoration and renovation of the Academy building. The evening will conclude with a cocktail party with the performers. “Portrait of an Artist” features Lavin and Bakunas in a 90-minute intimate, improvisatory performance during which Lavin answers questions about her life and career, posed by her husband while he paints her portrait on stage. Bakunas’ finished portrait of Lavin will be raffled off at the end of the night. Tickets to the benefit performance of “Portrait of an Artist” are $100 and raffle tickets are $25.


Bridge Street Theater is holding its second annual Performathon fundraiser on Saturday, April 28, and you can be part of it. The Catskill theater is searching for performers of all types: professional musicians and recorder players; opera singers and shower soloists; Shakespearean soliloquists, class clowns and anyone who enjoys commanding attention at family gatherings with their thinly-veiled stand-up routines. Whatever secret (or not-so-secret) talent you have, BST wants to put you front and center, sharing it with the world during Performathon, which runs from 10am-6pm. So haul out those tap shoes, dust off that accordion, pull those poems out of the drawer, and sign up for a performance slot today by contacting Kelly at A small donation of $1 per minute of stage time is requested (with a five-minute minimum and a 15-minute maximum). Following the daytime performances, BST will host the Performathon Grand Variety Show at 7pm. Tickets for the variety show are $20; students age 21 & under $10.

NaNola in Malta is hosting the Party for a Cure, a fundraiser for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, from 12noon-4pm on Saturday, June 16. The bash features music by Floodwood (featuring moe. drummer Vinnie Amico), drink specials, complimentary food, a silent auction, 50/50 raffles, yard games and more. Admission is $20.
