THEATER: “Blithe Spirit” @ Capital Repertory Theatre, Albany. It’s opening night! One highly spirited wife is fun, but two is fertile ground for this smash comedy hit of the London and Broadway stages from the witty pen of Noël Coward. Meet cantankerous novelist Charles Condomine (Gary Lindemann), re-married to Ruth (Brenny Rabine) but haunted (literally) by the ghost of his late first wife, the clever and insistent Elvira (Yvonne Perry), who has been conjured up by a visiting “happy medium,” one Madame Arcati (Eileen Schuyler). 7:30pm. MUSIC: Robyn Hitchcock @ the Iron Horse Music Hall, Northampton. Since founding the art-rock band The Soft Boys in 1976, he has become one of England’s most enduring contemporary singer-songwriters and live performers. A surrealist poet, talented guitarist, cult artist and musician’s musician, Hitchcock is among alternative rock’s father figures and is the closest thing the genre has to a Bob Dylan (not coincidentally his biggest musical inspiration). 7pm. $25.

TALK: Andrea J. Buchanan @ Guilderland Public Library, Guilderland. She is the co-author of the million-selling “The Daring Book for Girls” series, an empowering set of how-to manuals for girls with a sense of adventure. Her multimedia YA novel “Gift,” a sci-fi story that comes with its own fully playable Minecraft map, was named one of Kirkus Review’s Best Books of 2012. Her new memoir, “The Beginning of Everything,” recounts her harrowing experience with a real-life neurological mystery after a coughing fit led to brain trauma and months of cognitive impairment. 7pm conversation on writing for children and young adults.
