LIVE: The Chuck Lamb Trio @ Caffe Lena, 2/6/18
Review and photographs by Rudy Lu
Jazz at Caffe Lena returned in February despite some last minute problems. Last month’s scheduled special guest saxman John Ellis was forced to cancel due to illness, but local saxophonist extraordinaire Jeff Nania gamely stepped in to take his place with host band the Chuck Lamb Trio.
Nania and pianist Chuck Lamb were bolsterd by an ace rhythm section featuring frequent Caffe performer Dylan Perillo on bass and Syracuse-based drummer Evan DuChene. Special guest vocalist Ria Curley also stepped up to the microphone to sing a pair of her original compositions.
Since debuting in October the Jazz at Caffe Lena concert series has featured the Chuck Lamb Trio with a special guest soloist performing on the first Tuesday of the month. But that’s changing this month, as the concert series is moving to the second Tuesday of the month. So the March performance will take place at 7pm on Tuesday, March 13 with special guest Bobby Militello, longtime saxophonist with the legendary Dave Brubeck Quartet. Tickets are $20 in advance; $22 at the door.
