TALK: Randy Cohen’s “Person Place Thing” podcast live @ UAlbany Performing Arts Center’s Recital Hall, Albany. The comedy writer, newspaper columnist and UAlbany alum won three Emmy Awards for his writing on “Late Night with David Letterman” and another for his work on Michael Moore’s “TV Nation.” For 12 years he wrote “The Ethicist,” a weekly column for The New York Times Magazine. He is also the host and creator of the nationally syndicated “Person Place Thing” podcast, where guests talk about a single person, place and thing of personal importance. MUSIC: Etheric Currents @ Club Helsinki, Hudson. A new avant-jazz outfit bringing together five musicians from a diversity of musical backgrounds who are united by a love of improvisation. Guitarist Ryan Blotnick, saxophonist Jarrett Gilgore, drummer Otto Hauser, keyboard player Tyler Wood and bassist Scott Colberg have individually worked with a dazzling array of musicians, including Steven Bernstein, Lee Konitz, Triage, the Black Crowes, Jeff Tweedy, Tony Visconti, Bobby Previte, Meshell Ndegeocello, Devendra Banhart, Elvis Perkins, Sharon Van Etten, Vetive, Joan As Police Woman and the War on Drugs. 8pm. $10.
COMEDY: Chicks Are Funny @ the Funny Bone, Guilderland. Erin Harkes hosts the monthly all-female laugh session with Lindsay Lou headlining. With Dre Cerbin, Katie Boyle and Jennifer McMullen. 7:30pm. $10.
