We’d like to congratulate Chatham’s own Queen of the Blues Rory Block, who has been honored with a pair of nominations from the Blues Foundation in Memphis.

The foundation has announced the nominations for their 39th annual Blues Music Awards, and Block picked up nods in two prestigious categories – Acoustic Blues Artist of the Year and Best Acoustic Blues Album (for her latest album, Keepin’ Outta Trouble: A Tribute to Bukka White). Block – who has previously been honored with five Blues Music Awards – is the only female nominee in either category.

Congrats also go out to other upstate NYS nominees of note, including Tas Cru (Best Emerging Artist Album for Simmered & Stewed) and Savoy Brown (Best Rock Blues Album for Witchy Feelin’).

Meanwhile, Greater Nippertown blues fans will also have the opportunity to catch two other nominees in upcoming action at Club Helsinki in Hudson. Shemekia Copeland (Best Contemporary Blues Female Artist) takes the stage on Friday, February 23, while Bettye LaVette (Best Soul Blues Female Artist) steps into the Helsinki spotlight on Saturday, April 7.

The Blues Foundation will announce the winners at its 39th Blues Music Awards in a ceremony and showcase performance at the Cook Convention Center in Memphis on Thursday, May 10.
