CANCELLED: Tavis Smiley’s “Death of a King” @ Proctors
In the wake of allegations of sexual harassment against television host/author Tavis Smiley, the tour of his “Death of a King: A Live Theatrical Experience” stage production has been cancelled by the Saratoga Springs-based producers Mills Entertainment.
The tour – a tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. featuring readings by Smiley and live music by jazz pianist Marcus Roberts – included a performance originally slated for Proctors in Schenectady on Thursday, January 18.
A statement by Mills Entertainment reads:
“In light of the recent allegations concerning Tavis Smiley, Mills Entertainment will not be moving forward with the ‘Death of a King’ project at this time. We believe deeply in the message of this production and the importance of commemorating Dr. King in this crucial moment; however, we take seriously the allegations and will be suspending our relationship with Tavis Smiley and T.S. Productions.”
Ticketholders for the Proctors show may obtain refunds at the place of purchase.
