CANCELLED: Yet Another Concert at Massry Center for the Arts

This has not been a good year for the College of Saint Rose’s Massry Center for the Arts in Albany. Not at all…

The Massry’s fall concert season started off with a solid but sparsely attended concert by Amy Helm in early October, but since then it has suffered three consecutive pop concert cancellations.

First, Marc Cohn concert slated for Homecoming Weekend was postponed at the last minute. (That concert has since been re-scheduled for Tuesday, February 20). Then the concert by Gedeon Luke & The People – originally slated for October 28 – was cancelled.

And now, the concert by Dana Fuchs – which was scheduled to take place on Saturday evening (December 2) – has also been cancelled “due to circumstances beyond our control,” according to the Massry Center website.

Let’s hope that things are looking a little brighter for blues queen Shemekia Copeland, who is slated for a Saturday, December 16 concert at the Massry.

No offense to St. Rose but they shouldn’t have built such a cramped theatre. I will never see a show there again because as a 6’4″ adult male I have about as much leg room at the Massry as I do while sitting in coach on JetBlue. I get that some Broadway venues in NYC were built a long time ago when people were smaller but there’s no excuse for the St. Rose engineers to have done such a poor job with the leg room at their recently built performance hall.
