NEW CONCERTS: This Week’s Round-Up

In support of his new album, War & Leisure, scheduled for release on Friday (December 1), Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Miguel rattles the rafters at the Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park on Thursday, March 15. Kicking off the evening’s festivities at 8pm will be SiR and Nonchalant Savant. Priced at $39.50 in advance; $42.50 at the door, tickets go on sale at 10am on Monday (December 4).
Curated and hosted by New York folk favorite Happy Traum, Byrdcliffe’s annual Winter Solstice Concert will be held at the Woodstock Playhouse at 8pm on Saturday, December 16. Traum will be joined by Zach Djanikian, Amy Helm, Byron Isaacs, Bruce Molsky, Geoff Muldaur, Eugene Ruffolo, John Sebastian and others. Tickets for the concert – a benefit to support Byrdcliffe’s ongoing work as a center for the arts in the Hudson Valley – are on sale now, priced at $27, $47 & $67.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The first round of performers has been announced for the the 38th Old Songs Festival of Traditional Music & Dance – including Happy Traum & Jim Kweskin, The Yanks, Bon Debarras, Low Lily, Mavish, Jerron “Blind Boy” Paxton, the Gaslight Tinkers with Choc’late, Vox Hunters, Eliz Laprelle & Fruit Dodgers, Christine Lavin, Bob Franke, Joel Mabus, Máire Ní Chathasaigh & Chris Newman, Anne Hills, Joe Jencks, Stu Fuchs, Windbourne, 3 Ravens and Stefan Amidon.
YouTube fave and Interscope recording artist Alex Aiono has been added to the line-up of All Time Low, Dua Lipa and Grace VanderWaal for FLY-92.3’s Not So Silent Night concert at Albany’s Palace Theatre on December 5.
In support of his latest album, Feelin’ Freaky, award-winning blues ‘n’ soul harmonicat-singer John Nemeth is scheduled to keep the blues rolling at the Upper Room in Albany with a concert at 7pm on Saturday, February 17. Tickets are on sale now priced at $15 & $25.

You’ve got a whole bunch of options all around Greater Nippertown featuring such comedians as Rich Vos, Paul Virzi, Brian Beaudoin, Alonzo Bodden, Myq Kaplan, Max Dolcell, Tom Briscoe, Steve Caouette, Ross Bennett, Eddie Clark, Kevin Bartini and lots more.
High-powered New Orleans singer-trombonist Glen David Andrews and his band will be on hand to ring in the new year at Club Helsinki in Hudson at 9pm on Sunday, December 31 ($35 & $65). And sensational soul singer Bettye LaVette returns to Hudson for a concert at 9pm on Saturday, April 7 ($35 & $45). (Of course, if you just can’t wait til then to see the sublime Ms. LaVette, she’ll also be in concert at the Cohoes Music Hall on Wednesday, December 20.)
And yes, it’s time once again for CBS 6’s annual Melodies of Christmas concerts. Taking place from Thursday-Sunday, December 14-17 at Proctors in Schenectady, the holiday extravaganza will feature the Empire State Youth Orchestra and Youth Chorale with special guests the Joey Thomas Big Band, Northeast Ballet and Orlando’s School of Dance. Net proceeds will benefit the Melodies Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders at the Bernard & Millie Duker Children’s Hospital at Albany Medical Center.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Old Songs in Voorheesville also announced its 2018 winter and spring concert series – Ellis, Andrea Beaton & Troy MacGillivray, Pete’s Posse, James Keelaghan, Matthew Byrne, Martin Carthy, Lil Rev, LAtoQC and more.
Led by The Turtles featuring Flo & Eddie, the 2018 edition of the Happy Together Tour will be rolling into the Calvin Theatre in Northampton at 7pm on Sunday, June 17. Also on board for this go-round is Mark Lindsay, Chuck Negron, The Association, The Cowsills and Gary Puckett. Priced at $49.50 & $65.50, tickets go on sale on Friday (December 1).
OPENERS: Meyhem Lauren will be joining Action Bronson at the Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park on Friday, December 8… Also at UCH, The Absentees and Bchiaps will open for Badfish on Thursday, January 4.
The Iron Horse Music Hall in Northampton has added a handful of new shows, including saxman Greg Abate & Orchestra Calle Verde at 7pm on Sunday, January 7 ($18 in advance; $20 at the door); singer-songwriter Liz Longley at 7pm on Sunday, February 18 ($13 in advance; $15 at the door); and “American Idol” runner-up David Archuleta at 7pm on Wednesday, February 28 ($25 in advance; $30 at the door)
SOLD OUT: Up at Caffe Lena in Saratoga Springs, both Friday’s show by the Ballroom Thieves and Saturday’s performance by the Suitcase Junket are now officially sold out… Sylan Esso’s concert at MASS MoCA’s Hunter Center in North Adams on Saturday, March 31 is now also sold out.
