Tony Winner Leslie Odom Jr. Heads to Clark Art Institute
Leslie Odom Jr., 2016 Tony Award-winner for his role as Aaron Burr in the smash hit Broadway musical Hamilton, will lead a dramatic reading of a new Alan Fox play, Safe Space, at the Clark Art Institute in Williamstown at 7pm on Thursday, June 8.
The play reading is presented by Williamstown Theatre Festival, and Artistic Director Mandy Greenfield will also offer a sneak peek of the upcoming WTF season.
In addition to winning the 2016 Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical, Odom also won a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album as a principal vocalist on the Hamilton cast recording.
Safe Space tells the tale of Marcus Wood (Odom Jr.), a passionate professor facing a complicated accusation from a student. The university’s president intervenes, and campus-wide protests erupt. With the university’s reputation hanging in the balance, the professor, president and student must weigh identity politics, ethics and core beliefs as they negotiate a way forward.
Additional casting for the reading will be announced in the coming weeks.
The reading is free, but reservations are required. This event is expected to sell out quickly. Tickets are available through both the Clark Art Institute and the Williamstown Theatre Festival, as well as by phone at (413) 458-0524.
