Massachusetts folk-rockers Parsonsfield slip into Newberry Music Hall in Saratoga Springs on Saturday, May 13 with openers Animal Years kicking off the evening at 9pm. Tickets are on sale now, priced at $10 in advance; $12 at the door.
The Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park has rolled out announcements about some new concerts including Fates Warning with the Final Sleep and Winter’s Burden at 7pm on Tuesday, June 13 ($18 in advance; $20 at the door) and Thou with Cloud Rat, False and Moloch at 8pm on Saturday, July 1 ($12 in advance; $15 at the door).
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The line-up of bands for the Lake George Arts Project’s free, two-day Jazz at the Lake festival in Shepard Park have been announced, including Cynthia Hilts, Ola Onabule, the Cookers, Camille Thurman, Orrin Evans, Emilio Solla and Dave Liebman’s tribute to John Coltrane.
The Hollow Bar + Kitchen in Albany welcomes Knox Hamilton with Fenech Soler at 8pm on Tuesday, May 2 ($10.27 in advance; $15 at the door); Mona with Flagship at 9pm on Wednesday, May 10 ($10.27 in advance; $12 at the door); and for your post-Tulip Fest pleasure, Hollis Brown with Lost Leaders at 9pm on Saturday, May 13 ($9.77 in advance; $12 at the door).
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Just like they did last year, Matchbox Twenty and Counting Crows are teaming up for a joint summer tour, and just like they did last year, they’ll be making a stop at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center again this summer. Rivers & Rust will open the upcoming show.. Tickets go on sale at 10am on Friday (March 31).
In support of his latest album, Wheelhouse, guitar hero Greg Howe invades the Van Dyck in Schenectady for two shows – 7 & 9pm – on Friday, August 4. Tickets are on sale now, priced at $22 in advance; $26 at the door.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Swedish metalheads Ghost are bringing their satanic sounds to Albany’s Palace Theatre, and tickets are slated to go on sale at 10am on Friday (March 31).
The annual spring concert by the Empire Jazz Orchestra at Schenectady County Community College’s Taylor Auditorium in Schenectady will feature special guest trombonist-composer John Fedchock in program of selections by Gerry Mulligan, Tadd Dameron/Dizzy Gillespie, Benny Carter, Phil Allen and others. The concert will be held at 8pm on Tuesday, April 18, and tickets are available now, priced at $20; 46 for students.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Stephen Kellogg & the South, West, North, East are headed into The Egg with the duo Native Run opening the show. Tickets go on sale at 11am on Friday (March 31).
The Funny Bone in Guilderland has added a bunch of new shows, including a couple of stand-up comedians who are better known as actors these days. Kevin Pollak grabs the spotlight for five shows from Friday-Sunday, March 31-April 2 ($22); and Tom Arnold for four shows on Friday & Saturday, June 23 & 24 ($25). Also NeNe Leakes (“The Real Housewives of Atlanta,” “Celebrity Apprentice,” etc.) does her thing at 7:30pm on Wednesday, May 10 ($25 & $35).
ON THE MOVE: The upcoming show by comedian John Mulaney has been moved from The Egg to the Palace Theatre to accommodate the demand for tickets. Tickets for the performance at the Palace go on sale at 10am on Thursday (March 30).
The indie Americana quartet Mipso steps into the spotlight at the Bearsville Theater at 9pm on Sunday, April 23. Tickets are on sale now, priced at $12 in advance; $15 at the door.
Sponsored by Jazz/Latino, Inc., the piano duo of Rebecca Cline and Nicki Denner will play originals in a tribute to Charlie Palmieri on the occasion of his 90th anniversary. The concert will take place at Union College’s Emerson Auditorium in Schenectady at 8pm on Friday, May 5. Tickets are $15.
Concocting casually melancholic music that combines the wounded drawl of Townes Van Zandt, the rambunctious energy of Jim Ford, the stoned affability of Bobby Charles, the American otherworldliness of The Band and the slack groove of early Pavement, Whitney cranks it up at Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock at 8pm on Saturday, May 27. The National Reserve opens the show. Tickets are $25 & $35.
